February brought exceptional redfishing, with some of the best sight-fishing opportunities of the year. On calm days, schools of redfish could be spotted cruising the shallow flats, providing thrilling visual strikes for anglers using artificial lures. When the wind picked up, shifting focus to hard structure—such as docks and submerged trees—proved just as productive, as redfish held tight to cover for warmth and protection.
Throughout the month, redfish showed a strong appetite for artificial lures, readily striking spinnerbaits and soft plastics. Whether slow-rolling a paddle tail across the flats or bouncing a jig near structure, anglers who adjusted to the conditions found consistent success.
The speckled trout bite remained sluggish in the aftermath of January’s freezing temperatures, but signs of improvement surfaced on warmer days, with fish becoming more active in deeper pockets and along ledges.
